Inspired By Employees

Kayte Walls, of Sullivan-Parkhill automobile dealership, wants employees to be healthy and have opportunities to protect their financial stability.

Sullivan-Parkhill is a dealership. We're in Champaign of Champaign-Urbana, which is where the University of Illinois is located. We have 120 employees, 80 are full time. About two years ago. I came on as the first HR person here. I can always sell our a la carte of benefits, which include our Illinois Mutual ones. Through Illinois Mutual, we have an accident plan. We have a supplemental life insurance plan, and we have a short term disability plan.

We offered the product mix through Illinois Mutual that we did because of price points, product, the underwriting offers that we were able to obtain. I would say we're probably close to 70% have at least one. The claims process is easy. Denial rate is low. The claims process with Illinois Mutual, it's very simple. We call one person and they walk us through. They got a check in the mail 7 to 10 days in most cases. And, we're dealing with that same person until that claim is paid.

I personally had a claim. They were great and always communicating with us and letting us know what we need, when we need it. Having the added voluntary benefits, I think, gives people options that they didn't necessarily know that they had before. And we want them to be healthy. We want them, if there is an injury, to know that they're taken care of, know that they're going to get some type of financial income or stability while they're off of work. It's at least covering bills and helping you get groceries and making sure you're okay at home.
