Facebook: Posting Your Own Content

Why post your own content?

Posting your own content lets you show your personality, share your local presence and deepen connections with prospects and clients. While sharing our posts is a good start, creating your own helps people see you—not just the people you follow.

What makes a good post?

  • Posts with photos or videos usually get more attention than plain text.

  • Keep your posts short and to the point.

  • Include a call to action—tell people what you want them to do (e.g., “Click the link to learn more,” or “Send me a message for a quote”).

How often should I promote myself?

Use the 80/20 rule:

  • 20% of your posts can talk about you, your products, or what you do.

  • 80% should be about others—your community, helpful tips, local events or stories that show who you are and why you’re in the business.

People will get to know you, trust you and see you as an insurance resource.

What are some examples of good content?

  • Write about your involvement in the community (e.g. a charity event, a local fair, school sports, etc.).

  • Share a client story (with permission)—perhaps how life insurance or disability income insurance helped someone in a real situation.

  • Post a behind-the-scenes photo of your office staff or your day.

  • Answer a common question people ask about your products.

Remember: any sales material, including social media posts, you create that specifically mentions Illinois Mutual or our products or services, or that uses our logo or other Illinois Mutual trademarks, must be submitted in writing to our Marketing Communication and Research Department for approval PRIOR TO USE. Submit your proposed advertisements to Illinois Mutual by email to [email protected] . Approved advertising may be used for a period of two years, unless we notify you otherwise.

This advertising policy is another reason why sharing our pre-approved posts is a time-saver. Visit Illinois Mutual on Facebook and LinkedIn for plenty of professionally designed, pre-approved social media posts.
